Herbert's Story.

Herbert was born in 1878 son of James and Margaret Buckley, The Rookery, Lymm.  He was educated at Lymm Parochial School and worshipped at the Congrational Church Lymm. Prior to enlisting he was employed as a tanner at New Road Tannery, Lymm.

He joined the Cheshire Regiment in 1914 and had seen 16 months of fighting before being wounded in the head in August 1916, he later rejoined his regiment after a short period in hospital.
He was married to Ada and they lived in Rushgreen, Lymm, with their 4 children.  His brother Jack also served during the Great War with the Manchester Regiment.

He was shot in the legs on 24th Ocotber 1916 and died a day later aged 38.
