Second Son killed

News has been received that Pte. Albert Edward Bellis, Machine Gun Corps, was killed in action on May 30. He was 21 years of age, joined the Army three years ago, and was drafted to France early in 1916. He was educated at Riverside School, and employed at Paul’s Flour Mills. He attended the Seacombe Presbyterian Church and Sunday School. He was the second son of Mrs Bellis, and of the late Mr. Ed Bellis, 37, Percy Road, Seacombe. The eldest son was killed in action two years ago in France.

The Rev. John L. Williams, C.F., writes:- “Dear Mrs. Bellis – I regret to inform you of the news of your son’s noble death. He was with his gun team in the line on the night of May 29-30 and a shell instantaneously killed him and three others. His comrades all admired your son’s spirit and his example to them all was most inspiring. We would like to express to you our thanks for his life and example, and out sympathy with you in your bereavement.
