Lord Hugh William's Story.
Born on the 6th April 1884 he was the son of the 1st Duke of Westminster and Katharine Duchess of Westminster; on the 21st April 1906 he married Lady Mabel Crichton, Lord Grosvenor was a keen Polo player
Extract from the Battalion diary reads
Oct 30th 6am, Heavy bombardment of position opened. At 7:30 am position was attacked by large force of Infantry, this attack proved successful owing to greatly superior numbers. Regiment retreated in good order about 10am except C squadron on the left flank, from which only about 10 men got back, remainder of the squadron missing.
Lord Grosvenor was the CO of C squadron and was at first posted as missing with Lt John Close Brooks also named on the county roll
He is named on the Burleydam memorial, in St Mary’s Church Eccleston, he also named on the Zandvoorde Memorial, Belgium.
