Samuel's Story.
Weaverham St. Mary’s “Roll of Honour” records an S. Ashbrooke. The main WW1 “Fallen” Memorial does not carry this name. George Ashbrook, son of Samuel is a WW2 “Fallen.” (George Ashbrooke, Cpl. 5th Bn. Cheshire Regiment, Service No 4125604, Died 17th June 1942.)
C.W.G.C. - remember Samuel at St. Mary’s Weaverham Churchyard. Samuel was with the 185th Coy. Royal Engineers Reg’t. No 79162, he died on Thursday 13th Feb. 1919, he was aged 45. Son of George and Ellen Ashbrooke of Cheshire; husband of Annie Broadhurst (formerly Ashbrooke) of 3 West Rd. Weaverham. Inscription. “Gone But Not Forgotten.”
N.A.M.C. - record Samuel with the King’s Liverpool Regiment No 4/9270, Rank Private. The card also references Royal Engineers No 79162, Private. He was awarded the British, Victory and 15 Star medals. Theatre of War France and Date of Entry 6/3/15. The card also has the word “Disc.” (It is assume Samuel was discharged at some point then potentially succumbed to his injuries or caught the end of war Flu.)
Freebmd records the birth of a Samuel Ashbrooke in the Sept. Q. of 1875 in Northwich. Samuel Ashbrooke is listed in St. Mary’s cemetery records, He has the usually simple headstone as provided by the Commonwealth Graves Commission with the Royal Engineers emblem & Service No 79162.
The 1911 census records the Ashbrooke family living on Tarporley Rd. Weaverham.

The 1881 census had Samuel living at home, Gorstage Green, with father, George, mother, and 6 children including Samuel.
Samuel was aged 44 in the 1911 census above and aged 45 in 1919 as recorded by the Commonwealth War Graves. Cheshirebmd records the birth of one Samuel Ashbrooke in 1875 in Weaverham in the years 1875/1900 in the Cheshire West District. Freebmd records a Samuel Ashbrooke marrying a Annie Moyniham in Oldham in the March Q. 1907. Freebmd also records the birth of a George Ashbrooke in Northwich, in the March Q. of 1913 with the mothers maiden name of Moyniham. The 1911 census records the birth of two children, Harold and William Stanley. Freebmd records the births of a Harold Ashbrooke in Sept. Q of 1908 in Oldham and a William Stanley Ashbrooke in Northwich in the June Q. of 1910. Cheshirebmd records the birth of two lads named George Ashbrooke in the years 1911/14, one in Northwich and one in Weaverham.
