Reginald's Story.
Born 5 June 1897 at Levenshulme, Manchester, Reginald was the son of grocer’s assistant William and Rose, (nee Townsend), Lindop, of Ash Cottage, Holmeshaw Lane, Haslington, Crewe, Cheshire.
Reginald had two elder sisters, Rose, and Lillian Merrill. The family later moved to 13, Mere Street, Haslington.
In 1916 at the age of 18 years, Reginald joined the 2/1st Battalion, Lancashire Hussars. Nine months later 16 June 1917 he was transferred to the Royal Naval Division, Howe Battalion. He was drafted to France 4 July 1917. He was wounded, on the 1 September 1917, and spent a month in hospital re-joining the Howe battalion. Between 19 November 1917 and the 17 February 1918 his was again in hospital with Impetigo, on his return to duty he was transferred to the Hood battalion 6 April 1918, part of the 63rd Royal Naval Infantry Division.
Reginald was killed in action, Thursday, 7 November 1918, age 21.
