The Deadly German Shell.
Birkenhead Gunner Killed While Resting.
Mrs. Greaves, who is now residing at 129, Livingstone Street, has received news that her husband, Gunner Thomas Greaves, of the Royal Field Artillery, has been killed in action in the Dardanelles. The sad news was conveyed to her in a letter from one of the men, which says :- “He was sitting outside a hut with some of his comrades, when a shell burst near them, killing two and wounding four. His death was instantaneous.”
Gunner Greaves, who was a native of the town, went out to Australia four years ago, and on the outbreak of war he went to the Dardanelles with the Royal Field Artillery, composing part of the Australian Expeditionary Force. He was 31 years of age, and formerly worked at the Birkenhead Lairages.
