James William's Story.

Born Monks Coppenhall, March 24, 1888. Son of John and Maria Skellern of 139, Mill Street, Crewe. Attended Mill Street and Crewe Secondary Schools, and was employed for a time in the Steam Shed Time Offices as a clerk. Emigrated to Australia in 1912 and took up an accountant’s position in Sydney. Enlisted on March 7, 1915. Embarked from Sydney on HMAT Karoola on June 16, 1915 for Gallipoli. Joined the 2nd Bn. on August 6, 1915. Received his wounds while attacking the Lone Pine trenches at 5.50am on August 6. He was evacuated on the HS Sicilia, but died onboard as a result of gunshot wounds to the abdomen and knee. He was buried at sea.
