Archibald Mcmillan's Story.

Archibald McMillan Taylor was born in 1882 in Birkenhead, the third son of Daniel Taylor, an engineer and Marion K. Taylor.

He was educated at Birkenhead School between 1893 – 1898 where he was a prefect, captain of the cricket XI and a leading member of the football XV. He made a name for himself as a rugby football player. Two of his achievements in the football world have created a record. He played 50 times for the Cheshire County and in every position on the field. For many years he played for Oxton Cricket Club

In 1901 he is living with his mother Marion, now a widow, three brothers and two sisters at 19 Kingsmead Road South, Oxton. The family employs a cook and two housemaids. Archibald is an invoice clerk.

Ten years later he is still living with his mother at the same address and is an assistant manager (Rubber Importer).

He was mobilised at the outbreak of war with the 4th Cheshire Regiment in which he held a commission. In July 1915 he left for the east and on August 8th the Cheshires landed at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli and on August 10th Captain Taylor was reported as missing.
