Thomas Alfred's Story.

Thomas Alfred Prentice was born in 1883 the eldest son of John G an insurance underwriter and Agnes S. Prentice.

In 1901 he was living at 62 Shrewsbury Road, Oxton with his parents, three brothers and two sisters. The family employed a cook, a nurse and a housemaid. At the time Thomas is a cotton broker’s clerk.

Thomas was educated at Birkenhead School from 1894 to 1900. He was a school prefect and a member of the school cricket and football teams.

In 1911 Thomas is still living with his family and the family had moved to 56, Bidston Road, Oxton. Thomas is a cotton salesman. He then became a cotton broker and was latterly a partner in the firm of Thornely and Pownall, Liverpool.

He took a BA degree in Trinity College, Dublin.

He joined the Cheshire Engineers (reserve) later to be given a commission. His brother Oscar also served in the war.

He was reported as wounded and missing at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli
