Alfred William's Story.
Alfred William Foster was born in Walsall on New Year's Day 1920. He joined the 4th Kings Shropshire Light Infantry on April 23rd 1940. Army number 4037568. On a visit to Northwich, he met and fell for Nora Sutton and they were married on October 2nd 1943. They lived in Castle, Northwich, at 66 Huxley Street. He was sadly killed in action at Udem on February 26th 1945 - just nine days after the birth of his baby daughter Judith Ann, who he never saw. News of his death was not received until 7th March. He is buried at the war cemetery at Reichwald Forest and his sacrifice is commemorated on the war memorial outside Northwich Parish Church.
Although Cpl Foster never saw Judith, he would be immensely proud of her, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and soon to be great, great granddaughter.
Cheshire County Memorial Project would like to thank Alfred Dewsbury, husband of Alfred's daughter for the picture and information on Alfred.
