Birkenhead News  21 October 1916

A telegram has been received by Mrs. Plant, baker, of 66 Walker Street, Hoylake, that her assistant, Private Harold Jones, has been shot through the head by a sniper and was killed. He was a bright young fellow of 28, and had been for 14 1/2 years with Mrs. Plant. He was a teacher in the Church of England Sunday School, a sideman at Hoylake Parish Church, and one of the first members of the Hoylake branch C.E.M.S. Before enlisting he was a member of the V.A.D.
