Frederick's Story.

When the 1901 Census was taken, 2 year old Fred was living with his parents, John and Mary, and his three siblings at 150 Chapel Street, Edgeley. He will have been conscripted into the Air Force when he became 18. 1st Aeroplane Supply Depot was at Marquise, near the French town of Boulogne. On the night of 23/24 September, it was attacked by 13 German bombers in what would be the most devastating raid on a British aviation facility during the War. Fred was one of 48 men killed and another 124 were wounded. The damage to planes was also considerable with 26 being destroyed and 73 damaged.
