“Wirral Pal” Killed in Action.

After Nine Months at the Front.

Lance-Sergt. Arthur Cawley Acton, of the Cheshire Regiment (Wirral Pals), was killed in action on May 13th. He joined the Army at the commencement of the war, and had seen much heavy fighting during the nine months he was at the front. He gained promotion rapidly, and proved himself a very capable and popular N.C.O. Previous to the war he was employed in the motor department at Messrs. Lever Bros., and his fellow-workers feel his loss acutely, for he was a very great favourite amongst them all. He has an elder brother, and a younger one, in the same regiment. His parents have received a very touching letter from the officer commanding the regiment, who speaks very highly of the qualities and capabilities of this promising young N.C.O. Sergeant Acton was only 21 years of age, and the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. Acton, of 3, Bebington Village, to whom the greatest sympathy is extended in their sad loss.
