Edward's Story.
Birkenhead News 21 December 1918AFTER 23 DAYS IN FRANCE.
Sad news was received at 15 Queen Street, Tranmere, by his wife and parents of Pte. E. Lester, to the effect he was killed in France on the 20th October, after the very short period of 23 days in France. Before enlisting in the 5th Lancashire Fusiliers, he was an apprentice at Messrs. Cammell Laird and Co., and also an old St. Catherine’s boy. He is sadly missed and was loved by all who knew him. Pte. E. Lester’s only brother served with the Liverpool Rifles and was discharged through wounds received in action.
We don’t forget him, nor do we intend,
We think of him daily, and will to the end;
We mourn him in silence and sorrow unseen,
And dwell on the memories of days that have been.
