Thomas's Story.
Birkenhead News 18 May 1918
PORT SUNLIGHT SOLDIER FALLS.
The distressing news has been received by Mrs. Minnis, who resides at 20, Primrose Hill, Port Sunlight, that her husband, Driver Thomas Minnis, of the M.G.C., has died of wounds received in action on April 27th at a casualty clearing station. In a letter received from a nurse she states that Driver Minnis was admitted to hospital on April 27th with a severe wound to his abdomen. Everything possible was done for him, but he never rallied, and died the same day. Driver Minnis who was exceedingly well-known and popular in Port Sunlight, enlisted in the famous 13th Cheshires in Sept. 1914, and went out to France in 1915. He had been through very severe fighting with the regiment at Vimy Ridge, and also in the Messines advance, where the regiment made such a glorious name. Prior to enlisting he had been in the service of Messrs. Lever Bros. for 18 years in the traffic department as a driver. He was 30 years of age, and leaves a widow and four sons to mourn for him. The greatest sympathy will go to them in the great loss they have sustained from his many friends and workmates at Port Sunlight.
