Fred's Story.
Fred Darlington was born in 1879 in Knutsford, one of five children born to John (a house painter) and Mary Jane Darlington of 9, Tatton Street, Knutsford. On leaving school he took up the trade as a pork butcher.
His service records no longer exist but we do know he enlisted in the army at the outset of the war, becoming Private no. 15845 of the 10th Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment.
Fred died of wounds on the 12th October 1916.
