John's Story.
Birkenhead News 27 May 1916Neston Soldier’s Death
From Wounds Received in Action.
Neston people will regret to hear of the death of Private John Coyle, of the 13th Cheshires, which took place in hospital on the 14th May. A sympathetic letter has been received by his wife from the chaplain, stating that her husband died from a wound in the head. He was 33 years of age, and exceedingly well-known in this neighbourhood, and much sympathy is felt for the widow and four children, the eldest of whom is only nine years of age. Enlisting in the early days of the war after the necessary training, Private Coyle proceeded to the front last September, and his letters home reveal a strong spirit of endurance and loyalty to his country. Suitable references to the sad event were made at the parish church on Sunday morning, where the deceased soldier was at one time a chorister, and the “Dead March” in “Saul” was played at the close of the service.
